I've had my Kimber TLE RL2 since the early 2000's, about a year after LAPD SWAT adopted this model. It has run about two thousand rounds since, and has proven to be a solid, quality build with consistent accuracy.

Now, it is time for a tear down and inspection, so what better time than to also give it some extra attention.

Parts is parts.

Isolating parts to consider cerakote application. For the upper (slide face) I eased the front sharp edges to a 3.5mm radius, the rear edges to about 1.5mm radius.

Frame sprayed, determining what more(?).

After pushing in the new fiber optic sights, and then loose-fit components to preview the progress, I liked how the worn safety, mag release, slide catch looked in contrast to the H-Series 'Battleship Grey' Cerakoted frame. The trigger and hammer turned out great inset with Cerakote C-series in 'Stoplight Red'.

Devil in the details.

To mask complex patterns and maintain consistency I output cad-cut vinyl patterns specific to areas I wanted to cover. Shown here are the grips where I wanted to keep the flat black hexagons as is, but spray the raised surface with a dark grey to produce a monochrome effect in the end.

The results.

Finished and pleased. I think the grips in Cerakote c-Series 'Tactical Grey' added dimension and compliments the 'worn' components nicely. Further contrast and detail is provided by simply adding warmth to the orchestration with use of gold hardware to secure the grips.
